SEAN KATSUYAMA CELLO
A versatile and accomplished cellist, Sean Katsuyama is a frequent performer on New York’s concert stages and Broadway theaters. A long time resident of New York City, he has performed solo and chamber music in many of its most noted venues, and had the honor to play for relief workers at the World Trade Center site following September 11th. He was a member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Pacific Music Festival Orchestras, touring Europe, Japan, and Korea. He also toured the North American continent with “Star Wars in Concert”. Mr. Katsuyama's early studies were with Lee Fiser in Cincinnati and subsequently with Orlando Cole in Philadelphia. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees with Channing Robbins and Harvey Shapiro. A devoted teacher of both the cello and music appreciation, he has taught on the faculty of Bard College’s Preparatory Division and the Collegiate School. He is regularly invited to adjudicate at the Hong Kong Schools of Music Festival. His hobbies include the Chinese, Japanese, and Western versions of chess and photography. His instrument is a modern reproduction of the "Sleeping Beauty” Montagnana cello, formerly owned by Orlando Cole.
