MARK PATTERSON TROMBONE
Trombonist/composer Mark Patterson, from Evergreen, Colorado, picked up his love of music from his father, trombonist/bassist Dick Patterson, whose jazz associates Spike Robinson and Dale Bruning adopted Mark as an apprentice of sorts. Mark graduated from the University of Denver, then sharpened his pencils in New York with Bob Brookmeyer, Manny Albam, and Jim McNeely in the BMI Jazz Composers’ Workshop.
Mark loves playing a variety of music: from Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops Orchestra; to tours with Steely Dan and Barbra Streisand; and theater, including Spamalot, South Pacific, and My Fair Lady. Mark is a longtime member of the jazz sextet Convergence, collaborating along the way with Jimmy Heath and Roberta Gambarini. He appears in jazz clubs and in concert halls with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Band of Bones, Mike Holober’s Gotham Jazz Orchestra, and his own projects Group Stories and Brass Symbiotica.
Mark’s recordings include Convergence, Modern Man and I Can Be There; Donald Fagen, Morph the Cat; Mike Holober, Balancing Act and This Rock We’re On, Mike LeDonne, It’s All Your Fault; John Hollenbeck, All Can Work; Houston Person, So Nice; and, with Dale Bruning, Tomorrow’s Reflections, Mellow Mood, and Thanks for the Memory…Jim Hall. Mark’s new Quartet album is due out soon. Mark wrote commissions for recordings by the Gotham Wind Symphony and the Westchester Jazz Orchestra. Mark teaches at Temple University, and the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts ‘Sangres’ Camp.
