The Dolphins Quartet, one of Juilliard's most exciting young string ensembles, is an innovative
group of musicians dedicated to invigorating chamber music through their impassioned
performances, original compositions, inventive improvisation, and collaboration with modern
composers.
The Dolphins recently made their David Geffen Hall debut at Lincoln Center performing John
Adams' String Quartet, Absolute Jest, with the Juilliard Orchestra conducted by the composer.
Frequently featured at Alice Tully Hall, The Dolphins presented the Juilliard premiere of
Weinberg’s String Quartet No. 4 and Villa-Lobos’ String Quartet No. 5.
Working closely with
living composers, they performed John Corigliano’s 1995 String Quartet, Andy Akiho’s LIgNEouS,
and Daniel Ficarri's world premiere of Lessons from the Neighborhood. The Dolphins
have collaboratively composed and performed two original works, The Dolphin Miniatures and
The Angel Fire Quartet.
In 2024, The Dolphins Quartet will begin an active two-year residency as the Arts Leadership
Ensemble for Project: Music Heals performing one-on-one bedside concerts for isolated patients
in healthcare facilities nationwide, bringing Juilliard composition curricula and live concerts to
correctional facilities and, as musical ambassadors to distressed areas around the world, will
travel to Kenya this summer.
As Gluck Community Service Fellows, The Dolphins regularly perform outreach concerts and
have served as teaching artists for The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Juilliard’s
Young People’s Concerts. Enthusiastic proponents of chamber music education, they have
conducted master classes at Duke and Shenandoah Universities, as well as at Greenwood Music
Camp.
They have studied with the Juilliard Quartet, the Calidore Quartet, the American String Quartet,
and the St. Lawrence Quartet, as well as Joseph Lin, Joel Krosnick, Laurie Smukler, Molly Carr,
Natasha Brofsky, Nick Mann, Fred Sherry, Nadia Sirota, and Paul Neubauer.
This summer they will perform at the Music from Angel Fire Festival in New Mexico and the
Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival in Detroit as Shouse Institute Artists.
The Dolphins Quartet was honored as 2024 Concert Artists Guild finalists.
